Job description

Led by one of the best CFO's in Federal Government, as well as a great SES in the budgets team, this highly topical, large, and growing Federal Department is seeking multiple EL1's to join the Budget Policy team.

The roles are focused on budget costings and Budget Policy. Naturally, they're ideally suited to those with policy experience, but we can consider individuals with a quality track record in budgets, who are looking to transition into the policy space.

The CFO leading the Department's finances is highly respected and is known for developing their teams and supporting internal progression wherever possible. This is a Department where you can always find a new challenge to assist in your development through to more senior levels.

We are seeking one established EL1 who can hit the ground running at level, and one more junior EL1 or APS6 who's ready to step up and establish themselves at the EL1 level.

Additionally, there is a particular focus on delivering outcomes, rather than just administering a process. So if you're the kind of person who likes to get things done and see results, this is the place for you.

Highly developed communication skills are essential as you'll frequently be working with stakeholders to achieve outcomes and advise on important issues.

The primary accountabilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the portfolio’s involvement in the Commonwealth Budget Process and the development of a suite of Budget products to a high standard, including reports, briefings to ministers, and submissions to Cabinet.
  • Developing, coaching, and mentoring junior staff members and identify training needs where relevant to sustain and uplift staff capability.
  • Strengthening recommendations and strategic direction of NPPs with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the Department and other programs.
  • Ensuring the portfolio achieves deadlines set by the Central Agencies, the Prime Minister and Cabinet Secretary for work associated with the Budget process.
  • Providing strategic advice and guidance to the team and line areas in relation to NPP development, including interpretation and application of legislation and key reporting requirements where relevant.
  • Representing the Department at meetings, interdepartmental committees, conferences, and other forums under their policy responsibility.
  • Engaging and liaising with the Department of Finance, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Treasury and Ministers’ Offices on Budget matters under their policy responsibility.

The roles can be offered in a variety of ways, depending on your current circumstances.
For existing permanent employees of the APS, a permanent transfer or secondment with acting arrangements can be made. For those not permanently employed in the APS, a longer-term non-ongoing (salaried) position can be offered, with a view to a permanent appointment in the future.

If budgets and or policy are your thing and you want to be around other high-performers, please follow the prompts to submit your application.

For further information, please feel welcome to call Andrew Doyle - Principal on 0421 222 *** at any time.

If these positions don't seem quite right for you, but you'd value support in finding your next opportunity, you're welcome to get in touch at any time to discuss your goals and how we might be able to help.

Note: Applicants must be citizens of Australia to be considered for this opportunity.

Candidate Testimonial:
"I have found you to take the utmost personal care in the service to find the best fit for client and candidate. You have been very professional in dealing with your business stakeholders, a trait I found to be seriously lacking among your competitors. I am pleased to thoroughly recommend you to anyone that is seeking career or recruitment advice. Thanks very much for your help over this time."
