Joining a multi-disciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to work on a key industry-funded initiative, as well as number of other Green Resource Recovery projects that focus on biotechnical mine water treatment, biotechnical recovery of metals and sulfur from wastewater, and algal-based bioprocesses for mine site applications. Within these Research Projects, you will have a vital lab-based role, assisting the team with maintaining microbial cultures; setting up, maintaining & taking samples from various experiments; conducting physical-chemical, microbiological and molecular biological analysis; and data analysis and interpretation. Therefore, your well-developed laboratory & experimental skills, and your knowledge & familiarity with bioprocesses, culturing of microorganisms and analytical techniques would be crucial for this position.

Your duties will include:
- Preparing activity risk assessments and safe work instructions for projects and experiments that may involve hazards.
- Assisting in designing and performing straightforward experiments and routine laboratory analyses, designing new processes or apparatus by adapting existing techniques & components, or undertaking modifications to methods requiring some innovation.
- Preparing chemicals, microbial culture media and (bio)reactor influents.
- Setting up, maintaining and sampling (bio)reactors, columns and other experimental systems, as well as analysing samples and interpreting data.
- Conducting literature reviews, investigations and inspections in the field or laboratory including associated analysis possibly involving statistical or graphics software.
- General duties such as organising repairs and maintenance for equipment, purchasing laboratory consumables, chemicals and specific parts for experimental set ups, helping with maintenance of chemical registry, and ensuring lab compliance with quarantine and physical containment requirements.
Salary: AU$68K - AU$86K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, environmental engineering or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in bioprocesses and/or culturing of microorganisms.
- Demonstrated experience in physical-chemical analytical techniques.
- Experience in designing and conducting experiments and analysing experimental data.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, time management and effective delivery within allocated time and budget.
