About the Opportunity
The Design and Integration Portfolio within the ASC Engineering Department is responsible for the development and integration of all design changes required to ensure the Collins Class submarine fleet remains available, reliable and equipped with the latest technology.
As an experienced Designer, you will utilise your skillset across a variety of design work on challenging and ground-breaking projects. Become part of the team responsible for ensuring the Collins Class submarines remain at world-standard levels of capability and availability.
There are multiple Permanent full-time positions available for various seniority levels, based from Osborne, SA.
Responsibilities
- Undertake design activities in 2D drafting work from component to system/assembly level with associated detail, assembly and electrical cable installation drawings,
- Consult and liaise with the Structural, Mechanical, Electrical Propulsion, Combat Systems and Production personnel ensuring individual needs are considered during the design process,
- Mentor other Designers and potentially lead small design teams,
- Provide input to resolve design problems and contribute towards effective solutions,
- Review/check Designers’ outputs and suppliers’ (OEM) design documentation for correctness and acceptance,
- Provide estimates of hours required to create/update design artefacts to fulfil project requirement; and
- Conduct business in a professional manner with minimum supervision
About you
- Diploma, Trade Certificate or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience within Electrical streams
- Proven ability to use CAD software to interpret/conceptualise spatial requirements with 3D models and produce/revise 2D Electrical cable diagrams, circuit diagrams and assembly drawings
- Demonstrated experience working with electrical system installations
- Attention to detail to review/check engineering drawings
- An understanding of defence systems engineering standards and regulations (preferably Defence Seaworthiness) will be highly regarded
- Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools and procedures
- Experience in the resolution of technical problems in a complex design, manufacturing and construction environment
- Proficiency in the AutoCAD or AVEVA suite of drawing tools is highly desirable
Recent Engineering graduates or 3+ years of trade experience from a relevant electrical discipline with exposure to 3D Design Tools are also encouraged to apply. Experience in design and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical equipment installations will be viewed favourably.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
