About the Opportunity
The Design and Integration Portfolio within the ASC Engineering Department is responsible for the development and integration of all design changes required to ensure the Collins Class submarine fleet remains available, reliable and equipped with the latest technology.
As an experienced Mechanical Designer, you will utilise your skillset across a variety of design work on challenging and ground-breaking projects. Become part of the team responsible for ensuring the Collins Class submarines remain at world-standard levels of capability and availability.
Full time permanent position available, based in Osborne, SA.
Responsibilities
- Undertake design activities including 2D drafting work and 3D modelling from component to system/assembly level with associated part, sub assembly and installation drawings,
- Create and update parts lists and other documents linked to drawings,
- Consult and liaise with the Structural, Mechanical, Electrical Propulsion, Combat Systems and Production personnel ensuring individual needs are considered during the design process,
- Provide input to resolve design problems and contribute towards effective solutions,
- Review/check Designers’ outputs and suppliers’ (OEM) design documentation for correctness and acceptance,
- Provide estimates of hours required to create/update design artefacts to fulfil project requirement; and
- Conduct business in a professional manner with minimal supervision.
About you
- Diploma of Engineering, Trade Certificate or equivalent with 3+ years’ experience within Mechanical engineering domain
- Proven ability to use CAD software to interpret/conceptualise spatial requirements with 3D models and produce/revise 2D mechanical part and assembly drawings
- Demonstrated experience working with mechanical system installations including piping system schematics (P&ID)
- Attention to detail to review/check engineering drawings to AS 1100, and Def(AUST)5085 standards
- Experience in the resolution of technical problems in a complex design, manufacturing and construction environment
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
