Duties and responsibilities:
As an Electrical Engineer within the shipbuilding industry, the duties and task that the candidate shall carry on include:
· To support and working within the Electrical and Controls discipline to deliver electrical and controls systems for naval ships.
· Systems responsibility includes but not limited to:
- Electrical Plant – Electric Motors, Generators
- Electric Cabling, Connections and Cable Installation Systems
- Power Distribution Systems, Protection Devices, Switchboards
- Power Conversion Equipment, Batteries
- Ships Lighting System
- Platform Control System (IPMS)
- Alarm Systems and Warning Systems.
· To provide Electrical Engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.
· Complete electrical and control systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process.
· Create engineering designs to integrate platform electrical and control systems into naval vessels.
· Undertake technical investigations and root cause analysis to develop innovative engineering solutions.
· Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established standards.
· Support and work effectively as an extension of the Electrical and Controls discipline within Ghenova Australia located in Melbourne.
· Work effectively within the broader Ghenova’s engineering team to engage with different engineering disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs.
· Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule, and engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
· Plan and administrate design coordination meetings with engineering project stakeholders.
· Plan and administrate Design Review meetings with the Client.
· Developing the work under Ghenova’s brand standards.
· Provide naval engineering expertise and updated knowledge in the main current Australian Sea Defense Programs.
· Other duties which may be required from time to time.
Essential Skills / Qualifications for the candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree Electrical Engineering or similar (required)
- IT Skills. The candidate must prove knowledge of 2D CAD tools to produce design information.
- Languages: English
Employment Experience:
- Experience in executing projects and tasks in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience in the design of electrical and control systems.
- Understanding of the naval/shipbuilding industry operations (highly desirable)
- Experience in naval/marine engineering (highly desirable)
- Experience with electrical and control systems on a naval ship platform, including with medium voltage power design and analysis up to 440VAC.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single line diagrams and schematics.
- Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment or similar.
- Knowledge of 2D CAD (AutoCAD/MicroStation) to produce design information.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision‐making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high‐pressure environment.
- Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients.
- Competent in the understanding of, and development of, engineering documentation and engineering drawings.
