About the opportunity
The Electrical Engineer – Infrastructure is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with energy entities, government partners and the Victorian community. In this role, you will draw on industry insights of safety trends and engage and build strong relationships with key industry stakeholders so as to inform them of Energy Safe Victoria’s regulatory operations strategy. You will lead and support projects and initiatives and work in close collaboration with leaders and peers across Energy Safe Victoria’s divisions to ensure expertise is leveraged and integrated into the broader strategic goals.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing electrical safety management schemes and bushfire mitigation plans;
- Liaising with regulated entities to prepare audit plans and conduct pre-audit meetings;
- Assisting with audits, preparing formal reports of audit findings and provide feedback to regulated energy entities in a timely manner;
- Reviewing documents such as asset management plans, technical and construction standards, emergency plans, inspection manuals and reports to ensure compliance;
- Analysing databases to identify and report on safety trends and issues arising from electrical network incidents;
- Providing regulatory guidance to industry, Energy Safe management and the Victorian community on infrastructure safety. This include issues and changes relevant to Victorian legislation, Australian standards, codes and practices;
- Providing high-level advice on the design, construction, operation, maintenance and de-commissioning of electrical networks and key safety outcomes;
- Providing advice to assist in the investigation of infrastructure incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements;
- Participating in relevant committee and/or working groups with government, peak bodies, industry infrastructure stakeholders and regulated energy entities;
- Preparing regular reports, analysis and recommendations to management and where necessary, working with the Legal team to prepare improvement notices, direction letters and enforcement recommendations;
- Other relevant duties as required.:
To be successful, you will have:
- An Electrical Engineering qualification;
- Previous experience in the electricity industry;
- A strong understanding of the principles and application of safety management and knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and standards;
- A broad understanding of transmission, distribution and network planning;
- Solid and current technical knowledge gained from relevant experience in the areas of electricity distribution and transmission;
- Knowledge of audit processes and Quality, Health and Safety Assurance and Risk Management Frameworks;
- Strong skills and experience in delivering audit tasks including the preparation of formal reports and advising senior management;
- Regulatory and previous auditing experience will be highly regarded.
