The Hospital is a 200+ bed facility that services the western suburbs of Melbourne, providing care to over 50,000 patients annually throughout their emergency department and short stay unit.
Hospital services include Intensive care, special care nursery, perioperative services, paediatric unit, medical and surgical units, obstetric services, mental health including mother baby unit, hospital in the home.
THE POSITION
The emergency specialist will work closely with the EMERGENCY MEDICINE Clinical Director.
A key part of this role will be assisting the Clinical Director in providing an appropriate teaching program and to ensure the supervision of clinical practice and training of undergraduates and postgraduates in the emergency department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES:
- Clinical leadership and management roles primarily involve supporting the Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine in quality and risk management activities.
- Support and assist in the training of medical students, junior medical staff and nursing staff involved in the management of EMERGENCY MEDICINE patients.
- Participate in the Hospitals Healthcare Medical Emergency Response Plan.
- Participation in relevant research activities.
- Comply with continuing educational activities as outlined by ACEM and other relevant professional bodies.
- Perform other duties the Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine might reasonably direct from time to time.
- Providing support and leadership to promote excellence in medical education.
- Being supportive and promoting research within the hospitals and the community where required.
- Broad experience in the field of Emergency Medicine to enable confident clinical practice.
- Specialist or General registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Fellowship of Australian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
- Have a commitment to quality improvement activities relating to Emergency Medicine practice.
- Effective communication, conflict management and team building skills.
- Experience with training needs of junior medical staff.
- Leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills are recommended, as are developed written and verbal communication skills.
This hospital is located between the two largest cities in Victoria.
A major development of the area is underway and will see the commercial precinct extend down to the local River with public squares and a riverbank promenade overlooking parks which will become the green heart of the city. A large undercover shopping mall is located within 3 kilometres away for all your needs.
This location is home to several sporting facilities, there are picnic areas located under towering gum trees, shady paths, and a large lagoon at the bend in the river with a canoe launching deck and it is the site of a diversion weir which was constructed to irrigate the south market gardens.
For those with young families there is a local Zoo for the children, luscious green golf courses and finally local wineries for the adults to enjoy on their days off. The local beach is just a short 11klm drive away and there's plenty of foreshore area and stretches of sandy beaches to walk along and relax listening to the ocean.
If you require public transportation, there are local buses and trains to get you where you need to be, leaving every 30 minutes to Melbourne’s City.
