About the Role
A unique opportunity exists to join us on the journey of advancing sustainably and provide front line support to execute Alcoa’s Energy strategy!
Reporting into our Energy Director located from our HQ in Booragoon, you will be supporting and improving the management Alcoa of Australia’s commercial energy footprint in both gas and power supplies across mining, refining, and smelting segments. You will support the energy team’s role in identifying and delivering energy to underpin decarbonisation initiatives and will help build and maintain strong supplier relationships including oversight of Alcoa’s cogeneration activities.
In this role, your key activities and contributions will include:
Negotiating and implementing short to medium term energy supply opportunities to meet ongoing refinery energy requirements in a cost-effective manner.
Understanding the key commercial requirements and principles for negotiating and developing Power Purchase Agreements and Gas Supply Agreements. Experience with Renewable Power Purchase Agreement development will be viewed favourably.
Managing the day-to-day commercial footprint to ensure continuous supply of natural gas and electricity to Alcoa’s mining, refining, and smelting assets in Australia, including through trading activities of gas and electricity. This will include having a good knowledge of the operation of the WA Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and/or the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Providing expert advice and helping develop the business base and drive innovation and implementation of new energy initiatives, including reliable, cost effective renewable energy.
Ensuring that Alcoa remains compliant with all commercial regulatory requirements in carbon and renewable energy landscapes, and works with the relevant internal stakeholders to drive this outcome.
Leading and supporting the Energy Coordinator to ensure Alcoa remains compliant with all market and regulatory submissions required and ensure monthend and forecasts for Energy are undertaken diligently and on-time.
Driving improvements on systems and processes within the Energy group and with key supplier interfaces.
Assisting the Energy Director as required with Government (State or Federal as the case may be), joint venture partners, and other external party activities and generally to manage Alcoa interfaces.

What you can bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Engineering, or related discipline.
Your strong commercial background and skills in financial reporting and analysis.
Previous exposure to and experience in the energy markets within WA and/or Eastern States would be considered well regarded.
A creative approach to solving problems with an ability to make sound, practical, logical and balanced judgements.
A high level of initiative and effective communication that excels working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams towards driving improvement outcomes.
