The Team
You will join the Indigenous Electoral Participation Program (IEPP) team. A team of enthusiastic and passionate people who are committed to ensuring eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can actively participate in our democracy.
The team supports these opportunities by promoting in communities; enrolment to vote, education sessions, voting during electoral events and opportunities to work during an electoral event.
The Opportunity
As the IEPP Engagement Officer, you will play an important part in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australian elections, while delivering culturally appropriate electoral services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in South Australia.
Your knowledge and expertise will help the IEPP to succeed in making Australian elections more accessible for First Nations people.
To excel you’ll have:
- Experience in ensuring culturally appropriate electoral services are planned, developed and delivered in South Australia.
- The ability to build and grow important partnerships for the AEC with, State Government agencies, community based organisations and other local partners.
- The ability to deliver voter education sessions and enrolment activities.
- Knowledge to assist in engaging Community Electoral Participation Officer’s (CEPO) staff members in the IEPP team.
- Understanding of local challenges to electoral participation and the ability to liaise with partners to arrange meetings with communities.
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
