About our company 

Kestrel is one of the world's largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually.  Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process.  The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD.  Our team's capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation.  We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

A rewarding residential opportunity currently exists for a Process Control Systems Engineer to join the Kestrel Coal Resources team based in Emerald on a 7/7 day-shift only roster. Reporting to the CHPP Superintendent (Surface Maintenance), this position is accountable for monitoring and maintaining the effectiveness of our current Process Control Systems through the evaluation and testing of equipment to optimise performance.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by: 

  • Evaluating and analysing equipment and processes.
  • Designing and developing new Control Systems including testing, modifying, testing maintaining existing systems.
  • Identifying ways to optimise performance.
  • Trouble shooting and repairing system problems.
  • Utilising expertise and industry knowledge to identify opportunities to improve plant performance by utilising new Process Control technologies.
  • Project planning and costing.
  • Working collaboratively to assist in the organisation, planning, preparation and execution of plant shutdowns where required.
  • Fostering positive relationships across the organisation.

Applicants shall possess the following technical, interpersonal skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years' engineering experience within mining/resources industry.
  • An understanding of maintenance KPI's and their application.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge in Allen Bradley and Schnieder PLC systems.
  • Strong knowledge in CitectScada Systems.
  • Effective communication, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Detail and solution-oriented focus.
  • Demonstrated fault finding skills.
  • A commitment to maintain health, safety and security standards and principles.
  • Software application skills such as MS Excel and Word.
  • Coal Handling Process Plant experience desirable.
  • SAP system experience highly regarded.
