About the role

We are currently recruiting an Engineer within the Substation Design team. This role can be based from Port Macquarie or Orange, with the ability to work from home in a hybrid work environment.

Within the role you will be working with a team that is made up of supportive and collaborative professionals that strive to achieve excellent results in all aspects of their work. The team takes pride in their level of attention to detail and ensure that there is positive satisfaction from all internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of their high-quality designs.

As the Engineer within the team, you will be responsible for the identification, detailed research and development of designs, design strategies, workflows and supporting documentation. The Engineer will also be responsible for:

• Supporting the Designers within their BAU functions
• Completing and supporting complex design problems
• Strategic technical evaluations
• Making decisions for best fit for purpose equipment
• Creating and/or reviewing SID's
• Template development and review
• Applying and updating design principles to align to new and evolving standards and improved design philosophies
• Develop and implement fit for purpose design support tools
• Mentoring and supporting change within and external to the Substation Design team
• Engineering analysis including but not limited to;
• Cable rating calculations
• Simulations
• Protection studies including fuse rating and grading applications

About You

We are looking for someone that:

• Can think outside the box and look holistically at design problems
• Be able to break down complex problems and synthesis these into easy to understand and smaller manageable tasks
• Has experience in a similar Substation Design engineering role in the Energy/Electrical and/or Utilities Industry
• Has knowledge/experience of the current design philosophies, procedures, statutory requirements including Safe Design.
• Has demonstrated experience to utilise analytical and technical knowledge to manage activities during planned and unplanned events providing appropriate solutions to technical/engineering issues in the Energy Network Technical environment.

We are however, also after the right person who is fit for purpose. This means if you are new to the engineering field, potentially straight out of university we are interested to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is eager to learn and embrace an opportunity to make their mark within the intelligent design space globally.

Required Qualifications/Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Bachelor of Engineering to satisfy Professional Membership criterion of Engineers Australia or other Professional Body as aligned to the Washington Accord
• Current Driver's Licence
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to produce a high standard of quality work.
• Strong time management skills with excellent planning and organisational skills that has the ability to be able to handle a varying complex workload
• The ability to be able to understand the problem holistically such that you can make best for company decisions.
• Who can demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex issues
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver technical services in a professional and timely manner

Desirable Qualifications/Skills

• WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
• Level 3 Restricted Zone Substation access
