Key responsibilities include:- Establish and grow the software engineering community / guild across our teams
- Provide hands-on coaching and support to assist our developers in the quality, consistency and craft of our engineering practices including, but not limited to:
- Automation testing
- ITSM processes
- Resilient engineering
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery
- Onboarding and maturing our development environment
- Facilitate the sharing and re-use of patterns, technology choices, approaches and code across product teams
- Proactively identify blockers impeding our developers to deliver, or for our teams to scale, and lead on their resolution
- Participate in the recruitment of technical team members across our product teams and for the wider department, as appropriate.
- Identify engineering practices that need to change and influence a diverse developer community to adopt those changes.
Skills & Experience:- A strong track record in software development technical leadership working in complex large enterprise environments’.
- Exceptional stakeholder management experience in varying degrees of seniority
- Extensive experience in coaching and working with Developer’s to enable them to deliver consistent exceptional work.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and practices.
- Experience measuring engineering performance.
- Extensive experience in software development, in particular:
- automation testing and test driven development
- client-side JavaScript frameworks like React.js
- backend JavaScript technologies including Node and Express.js
- a strong depth of knowledge with Microsoft Azure
- knowledge of common web security issues and how to avoid them
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people
- Strong understanding of common patterns for developing resilient, maintainable and scalable web applications
- Understand how web applications are operated in production (eg. familiarity with platform-as-a-service and building twelve-factor apps)
- Collaborative, curious and helpful
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
