During your apprenticeship, you'll be employed by us, while completing on-the-job training with Host Employer BlueScope, located in Port Kembla.

In Australia, BlueScope is the largest steelmaker, manufacturing 2.6 million tonnes of flat steel products at its Port Kembla Steelworks. What you'll be doing…
You will complete a Certificate III Engineering Mechanical over 4 years through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and gain practical on-the-job experience alongside highly skilled tradespeople.
Throughout your formal training and practical experience in the workplace you will have the opportunity to:
- Rotate between a variety of departments throughout the entire steelmaking process;
- Read and interpret drawings and measure components;
- Mark out jobs, set up machines, prepare materials, tools and fixtures for machining;
- Maintain overhead cranes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, rollers, conveyers and gearboxes;
- Undertake machining operations, such as lathes, drilling, reaming, milling, grinding and boring;
- Assemble, maintain and repair equipment/machines.
What you'll bring to the table…
To be successful in this role, you'll need to meet the following selection criteria:
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Commitment to full term of the apprenticeship and study requirements;
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge;
- Demonstrated interest/passion in the trade;
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ongoing commitment to safety, quality and principles of continuous improvement;
- Strong mechanical aptitude
It will also help if you have:
- A current driver’s licence;
- Access to reliable transport.
