The position will be based at Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Inpatient facilities.
About the role
The Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Service is committed to the provision of quality health services to the Mental Health community. We aim to deliver Mental Health nursing services which, through research and innovative commitments, sets standards that are emulated by other national and international nursing organisations. Nursing services are seeking experienced Enrolled Nurses seeking a career change to the speciality of Mental Health Nursing, to undertake the 12 month Transition Program into Mental Health Nursing. The Transition Program into Mental Health Nursing provides a pathway for the development of Enrolled Nurses so that they may acquire expertise in the management of patients and clients within the speciality of Mental Health. The programme includes academic coursework and clinical learning, with three 4 month rotations to enable the provision of practical experience in a wide range of speciality streams within Mental Health. Following the 12 month program, applicants would then continue as permanent employees of the Mental Health Service. This Transition Program is for experienced Enrolled Nurses who have not worked in a Mental Health setting. Applicants must have a minimum of two years full time post-graduate Enrolled Nurse experience to be considered for this program. New Graduate Enrolled Nurses are ineligible for this Transition Program. The program will commence on 15 July 2024. The EN works under the guidance of Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the Enrolled Nurse (EN) in collaboration with Registered Nurses (RN), multidisciplinary team and others to provide safe, compassionate, person centred care . The EN is responsible at all times for his/her actions and is accountable for delegated nursing care.
We are looking for someone who has…
- A minimum of 2 years full time post-graduate Enrolled Nursing experience outside of the Mental Health setting.
- Current enrolment with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an EN with medication endorsement, including oral and intravenous competencies.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Evidence of Australian Work Rights and the ability to work a 7 day rotating roster.

About working for SLHD
This is a Category A position. To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy (PD2023_022).

Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
