The Shire of Exmouth is seeking a passionate Environmental Health Technician to join our Community and Emergency Services team on a part-time basis.

Strategically important for tourism, defence, and oil & gas investments, the North West Cape attracts a large number of visitors every year. During the cooler winter months from April to October, the resident population of 3,085 people triples as tourists flock to Exmouth. The tourism industry in Exmouth is a significant contributor to the local economy, contributing over $110M and generating 1,053 direct and indirect jobs for the region annually.
THE ROLEReporting to the Coordinator Environmental Health to deliver a range of public and environmental health services that aim to protect and promote health, prevent the incidence of infectious diseases, safeguard the environment, and enhance quality of life in the community. This is a part-time role offering 32 hours per fortnight; work days can be flexible to suit the right candidate.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience in environmental health will be highly regarded.
RESPONSIBILITIESThe Environmental Health Technician will also be accountable for the following activities:
- Identify customer needs and clearly communicate to ensure that there is a shared understanding of the possible outcomes to be achieved.
- Schedule and conduct water sampling as required from aquatic facilities, drinking water, wastewater, and environmental samples.
- Order supplies required for the continual provision of water sampling operations.
- Assist in adult mosquito trapping program, making dry ice, setting and collecting traps, and identification of mosquitoes.
- Assist in the identification and investigation of potential or existing mosquito breeding areas.
- Complete and maintain records of activities for reporting purposes.
- Assist the Environmental Health Officer in conducting inspections on premises for compliance with the relevant health legislation.
- Conduct landfill bore water monitoring as per landfill licence requirements.
- Assist the Environmental Health Officer in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of strategies to deliver effective holistic health and well-being.
- Assist the Environmental Health Officer in the development of annual reports and monthly council bulletins.
