What is Occupational Hygiene (OH)?
Occupational Hygienists use science and technology to measure worker exposures, assess worker risks and develop controls to improve the workplace environment. Occupational Hygienists focus on worker health protection by assessing the risk of hazards and improving work conditions and work practices.
The Role
This position is a great opportunity for a person who is keen to learn and develop whilst being mentored and supported by a close-knit team of highly experienced Occupational Hygienists including Certified Occupational Hygienists.
Reporting to the Team Leader, the role provides Hygiene Technician services to clients on sites across Western Australia, based out of our Perth Office and working on site.
Please note that this role requires Technicians to complete monitoring on our clients' remote sites throughout Western Australia. A Technician can expect to be working away from home on average 10 days per month (through 2 or more separate stints per month, with time at home in between).
Key responsibilities include:
- Occupational exposure monitoring for hazards including dust, diesel particulate matter, welding fumes, noise, asbestos fibres and chemicals.
- Developing sampling plans.
- Respirator and hearing protection fit testing.
- Reviewing sample data and entering it into company databases.
- Conducting field task observations.
- Providing accurate and reliable data for technical reports and proposals.
- Contributing to GCG projects.
About You
We are looking for someone with a passion for keeping workers safe from hazards who ideally has experience within the resources and/or heavy industry sector. You could also be in an Allied Health or Service role and looking to do a career change. Key requirements include:
Minimum Requirements
- Able to travel regularly and be flexible with work arrangements.
- Current manual driver's licence.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
- Willingness to undergo a Pre-employment Medical.
- Attention to detail and organised.
- Competent computer skills in Microsoft, particularly Excel and Word.
- The ability to work well autonomously and under supervision.
- Resilient nature with a growth mindset.
- Hold a current C class manual drivers licence
Desirable (but not essential) Qualifications/Experience
- Able to communicate information to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Reporting writing experience.
- Experience with data analysis.
- Experience working on a mine site.
- BSBWHS419 – Contribute to implementing WHS monitoring processes.
- Mine Air Quality Officer Training/Mine Air Quality Technician experience.
- Qualifications in Occupational Hygiene, Chemistry, OHS, Science, Nursing/Medical and/or Environmental disciplines.
