About the Role
Seeking qualified teachers who are keen to share their passion for sustainability by delivering programs to students from preschool to VCE through our Schools Sustainability Education Program.

The programs are designed for people of all ages in our community to become involved and gain a deeper understanding of our environmental impact and learn practical skills for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Our Schools Education Program is most often delivered at the Eco Living Display Centre (ELDC) at the Briars Mount Martha. It may also be delivered at another location within the municipality e.g. a school (incursion) or at an outdoor location. School holiday and community workshops are delivered at the ELDC. Service delivery must reliable and
flexible, and communicate the most up to date information, to respond to the diverse needs of the Mornington Peninsula community.

Reporting to the Community Environmental Education Coordinator, the core responsibilities include:

  • Deliver our School Sustainability Education Programs for preschool, primary and secondary students on the following topics: climate change solutions, sustainable energy, water saving initiatives, waste reduction, protection of our coastal environment, sustainable food systems and assessing ecosystem health, environmentally sustainable house design and human impact on the environment
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of content, delivery techniques and resources
  • Ensure the objectives of each education session are met and that each session is clearly linked to desired learning outcomes
  • As required, deliver engaging and educational school holiday programs and community sustainability education
  • Represent the Shire’s values, vision and objectives regarding sustainability, environmental protection and enhancement, and climate change mitigation
    and adaptation.

About You

  • A degree or diploma in education with experience delivering Environmental Education programs or similar, or lesser formal qualifications together with developed skills commensurate to position requirements and at least two years relevant experience. 
  • Experience in the development of Environmental Education programs linked to the school curriculum would be an advantage. 
  • Experience facilitating workshops (preferably in Environmental Education) would be an advantage. 
  • Enjoys a flexible work arrangement
  • A current First Aid Certificate is an advantage.
