About the role:
The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for the planning, implementation and reporting of general and specialist Environmental Health functions. These include risk assessments, approvals, sampling programmes, customer requests for investigations, pollution management, large public event risk management and onsite wastewater disposal. In addition, the Environmental Health Officer will also initiate, implement and review projects designed to promote community Environmental Health and prevent or minimise public health risks. Interpretation and enforcing legislation, policies and standards including the instigation of legal action and the provision of evidence is also part of the position.
We currently have a permanent part-time position available of 69 hours per fortnight with the potential of more hours based on leave coverage or other operational requirements. We are also flexible and open to negotiate if the successful candidate prefers less hours.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage specific EH program areas and carry out various inspections, audits, investigations, and projects as required
- Apply risk management strategies to specified projects
- Interpret legislation and carry out enforcement functions in accordance with authority granted under legislation and established procedures
- Employ effective investigative and dispute resolution strategies to resolve Environmental Health issues
- Provide professional and technical advice and information to both external and internal customers
- Participate in the development and implementation of the business plan for the section including the reporting of performance against agreed outcomes and performance indicators
- Participate in a system of continuous improvement including the planning, documentation and review of processes, procedures, policies and guidelines.

The successful candidate will have the following:
- A Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or other qualifications acceptable to the Executive Director Public Health
- Eligibility to be appointed as an Authorised Person and Inspector under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 for noise
- Eligibility to be appointed as an Authorised Person and Inspector under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 for pollution
- Training or qualifications in any other associated areas such as health education, food sciences, health sciences, mosquito management or pollution management will be highly regarded
- Previous experience or responsibility in Environmental Health projects or work
- Current drivers’ licence
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.

The salary for this position will be from $87,898.52 - $103,784.24 per annum pro rata depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant
