Working in a competitive commercial environment, the role of an Environmental Officer with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) is responsible for supporting the on-site delivery of diverse environmental and earthworks projects for clients. Our business focuses on erosion control, soil and water management, creek and foreshore stabilisation, construction of fire trails and access tracks, contaminated sites and conservation earthworks.
About you
To be successful you’ll need to be someone who can work with a team to deliver environmental focused projects with the responsibility for supervising staff and contractors operating machinery while making things happen on the ground.
Your responsibilities:
- Deliver and supervise the implementation of environmental and civil construction projects, predominantly within the Hunter Region. Key projects may include creek and foreshore stabilisation, assistance with on-ground technical and environmental assessments and conservation earthworks.
- Supervise and provide guidance for junior field staff and contractors
- Assist senior staff to investigate, develop and scope solutions for natural resource management issues
- Ensure project quality and safety, whilst also assisting to maintain budgets and project resources
- Identification of workplace hazards and assess the risk to health and safety, implement and manage risk controls associated with any hazards
- Professionally represent and promote the SCS to help develop effective partnerships with internal staff and contractors
- Work as a colleague with teams and areas to resource projects with a whole of area team approach

What will you need to commence a career with us:
- Experience in the natural resource management, erosion control, civil earthworks construction, landscape industries
- Experience and/or knowledge with plant and machinery operations
- Ability to successfully supervise staff and implement environmental construction projects
- A focus on safety and be able to deliver high-quality projects, demonstrated experience in delivering efficiencies whilst maintaining standards will be highly regarded
- Great communication skills and an ability to use computers and other mobile devices
- A current NSW driver licence combined with the willingness and ability to travel is required.
