Our Resources Team have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist - Mine Closure to join and deliver on a variety of projects for GHD’s key clients.
In this position you will enhance GHD’s role in creating innovative and sustainable solutions towards Asset Transition, leaving positive closure legacies and supporting project delivery and resourcing for continued growth in this priority area.
About the role
This is a growth role that has been created to respond to increased demand for mine closure specialists throughout the industry due to heightened community, regulatory and ESG expectations. Our clients are predominantly from the resources sector and we work on projects across Australia. Our backlog of mine closure work is healthy and the pipeline for future closure work, both within the mining and oil and gas sectors is growing due to our strong relationships and strategic approach to service delivery.
Recognising the multi-disciplinary nature of mine closure, we’re after people with:
- Project delivery and technical skills
- Experience in a mine closure related discipline (e.g., contaminated land/environmental science/remediation & rehabilitation/ecology/hydrology/soil science)
- In depth understanding of relevant legislation in one or more jurisdictions
- Knowledge of Australian and international closure planning best practice, or a desire to develop this knowledge
This role will give you the opportunity to:
- Perform project and program management from proposal through to delivery
- Develop business opportunities through establishing client relationships and winning repeat work
- Develop and update mine closure plans to meet client and regulatory requirements
- Use technical knowledge to inform closure risk management, stakeholder engagement and integration of closure aspects in mine planning, design and operation
- Complete technical project work in Asset Transition planning, management and execution
- Mentor young professionals
- Perform occasional site visits for the purposes of data gathering
- Build successful internal and external relationships
We value your:
- Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or relevant discipline
- At least 2 years’ experience in the QLD mining sector
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely translate a large amount of information into reports and correspondence, targeted at both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent communication skills to initiate, sustain and build on internal and external relations.
- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects and rapidly changing priorities.
