Federal government department responsible in leading a global effort to preserve and protect one of the planet's most significant natural wonders located in Australia. Currently looking for an Environmental Sustainability Officer to join their busy team for a temporary assignment until April 2024.
About the role:
As an Environmental Sustainability Officer, you will play a key role in implementing the Agency's Sustainability Strategy. In addition, you will:
- Drive sustainable practice awareness and commitment amongst staff, through promotion and education
- Provide advice on contemporary sustainability practices, government policy, procedural requirements and shifting community expectations
- Use your communications expertise to maximise our reach to a range of stakeholders utilising available tools and platforms
- Be ‘hands on’ to deliver initiatives and integrate the principles of ‘Agile ways of working’
- Contribute to required carbon emissions accounting and sustainability reporting
About you:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent professional experience) in sustainability, engineering, environmental science, or other relevant discipline
- Background in sustainability strategy and/or strategy implementation, project management and/or sustainable procurement is highly regarded
- Understanding of government legislation, policies and initiatives related to environmental management and sustainability of properties and programs
- Advanced computer literacy in MS Office suite, including carbon emissions and impacts accounting software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail and experience managing strategic processes
- Immediate start pending clearance
- Temporary assignment until end of April 2024
- $60- $65 per hour + super
- Full-time hours, Monday to Friday
- Townsville, QLD location
