We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Advisor, Processing and Projects who will report directly into the Environmental Superintendent - Operations, this role is being offered on a 5:2:4:3 roster and will be offered as a 14 month contract, commencing mid June until August 2025.

As an Environmental Advisor, you will be responsible for directly managing and supervising contractors, consultants, casual labour, vacation students, and, at times, Environmental Technicians. You will engage with and influence numerous stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure effective environmental management. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Environmental Superintendent and Manager to prepare an annual environmental compliance reports and the SER budget for environmental activities.

The role:

  • Environmental Management Systems: Uphold and contribute to the enhancement of Newmont's environmental management systems and commitments. This includes ensuring compliance, reporting, incident investigation, and response measures to foster a sustainable and responsible operational approach.
  • Permitting and Approval Plans: Collaborate with relevant teams to support the development of permitting and approval plans, along with associated documentation, to ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Environmental Incidents and Risk Management: Facilitate environmental event investigations and generate SMART corrective actions to address identified issues promptly and effectively.
  • Biodiversity Offsets: Manage day-to-day activities related to flora and fauna protection, including the management of invasive and other problematic species. Contribute to the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity within our operations.
  • Integration of Environmental Aspects: Proactively engage with internal stakeholders to seamlessly integrate environmental considerations into all operational activities. Promote environmentally conscious decision-making across the organization
  • The primary focus of the role will be to champion environmental performance on site. All environmental advisors are required to understand and strive for site compliance with all Newmont Standards.   They play an integral part of the environmental team and need to achieve departmental and site environmental objectives and targets. 
  • Under the direction of the Environment Superintendent – Operations this position is  assigned to a key focus area at Boddington, Processing (including RDA) and Projects. This position requires a close working relationship with the leadership in the relevant focus areas and needs regular interactions with personnel, both permanent and contract, in the workplace.
  • This position is expected to strategically consider and work to continuously improve SER programs and to identify areas of risk that have the potential to impact the business. 

About you: 

  • Tertiary qualification in related discipline such as Environmental Science with a minimum of 3 years practical related experience
  • Strong alignment of personal values to Newmont Values
  • Mining experience in environmental management essential
  • Knowledge of relevant Western Australian and Commonwealth legislation relevant to mining
  • Thorough demonstrated working knowledge of offsets management plans and associated cost forecasting tools, complemented with time-based reconciliation of cost expenditure and reporting.
  • Project Management Training desirable
  • Team player with leadership capacity and strong business acumen
  • Demonstrated Aboriginal cross-cultural competence
  • Organised, ability to prioritise, work on and persevere with multiple projects concurrently
  • Proven consultation, facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced communication, report writing and effective presentation skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point - MS Office software
  • Able to develop effective rapport with all levels of the workforce
  • Well organised and able to consistently meet agreed deadlines
  • Current manual transmission Drivers Licence
