About the opportunity
The Equipment Safety Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety of electrical equipment and appliances that use renewable energy sources, ensuring equipment compliance with certification requirements, standards and providing high-level technical expertise to support enquiries and investigations.
Your role responsibilities will include:
- Assessing, identifying any potential hazards and, when appropriate, certifying electrical equipment;
- Planning and conducting electrical equipment inspections;
- Co-ordinating check testing of electrical equipment to verify compliance with safety standards;
- Conducting enquiries and making decisions to enforce electrical Safety Compliance;
- Providing specific technical advice to suppliers and the public;
- Monitoring and remaining conversant with relevant electrical standards;
- Contributing to the review of regulations and standards that influence the safety and technical requirements of equipment supplied into Victoria;
- Educating and encouraging industry compliance and promoting community awareness on electrical safety;
- Representing ESV on electrical safety standards committee/s, as needed;
- Providing subject matter expertise in support of investigations;
- Liaising and working with other agencies such as WorkSafe, FRV the CFA and Solar Victoria.
To be successful, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in electrical engineering as well as significant experience in electrical equipment testing, certification and/or investigation or design and manufacturing of renewable equipment;
- A solid understanding of the principles and application of safety management and knowledge of legislation, regulations and standards relating to electrical Equipment Safety;
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to address a diverse audience;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities or experience in interpreting safety standards and test reports.
