About the role
This is a key senior executive role that will provide state-wide leadership and strategic direction for the implementation of initiatives and reforms that are forward focused and responsive to educational, social and technological developments to prepare all students, with a focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students in NSW public schools to meet the challenges of a dynamic regional and global future.
Working in a collaborative and consultative team you will provide leadership for the department in the development, implementation and review of strategies, systems and processes to achieve the department’s corporate strategic directions.
The Executive Director will, through continuous improvement and transformation, influence sector policy and reform to drive mindsets focused on excellence in the execution of education Outcomes and strategies. This will in turn support our commitment to equity and excellence ensuring every student can learn, grow and belong at school, celebrating the strength of our vibrant, diverse and multicultural community.

About you
You are a strategic and influential leader who is looking to make a difference by contributing to and influencing National Priorities and actions relating to Aboriginal education and training and Aboriginal people and communities.
You’ll be passionate about driving processes to strengthen community leadership and decision making while playing an important role in developing a culture that enables an equitable and outstanding public education system for our learners.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in a large complex organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with and understand issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Aboriginal identified role: Aboriginality is an essential requirement and typically all or the majority of the work will involve the development and /or delivery of policy, programs and services which impact Aboriginal people and/or involve liaising directly with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as education, business, management, social sciences or communications, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check).
- Demonstrated capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department’s and upholding the and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
