Job description

  • Pivotal role in a trusted, state-wide organisation

  • Lead People, Safety and Wellbeing strategy

  • Deliver world-class emergency management

About the organisation
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based emergency service that is the control agency for flood, storm, tsunami, earthquake and landslide emergencies. The organisation leads the preparation and response for those hazards and plays a key role within Victoria’s emergency management sector. With multiple specialised services, including teams that provide 24/7 responses, VICSES provides significant contributions and expertise to national and state governing bodies to ensure the safety of all Victorians.

About the role
The Executive Director People, Safety & Wellbeing is a pivotal role in the VICSES, supporting the Chief Executive Officer as a key advisor on all people, culture, safety and wellbeing challenges and opportunities.  A member of the Executive Team, the core focus is to contribute to the development of the organisations strategy and performance through the delivery of human resources, workplace relations, talent management, organisational development, capability and services. The appointee will lead the development of strategies and systems to maintain a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture and performance, in addition to driving transformational change through the optimisation of organisational culture and employee/volunteer engagement. Critical to success will be the ability to partner with leaders across the organisation to continuously improve workforce capability and diversity and inclusion, by delivering tangible outcomes that drive engagement, agility and performance.

About you
You are an accomplished human resources executive, or are seeking the chance to employ your strategic mindset and pragmatic action orientation in a leadership position that helps shape the organisation. Recognised for your capabilities in human resource operations, your experience has ideally been gained in complex services, public sector or for-purpose environments. Presenting with creative ideas and curiosity, you are an architect of human resources strategy designed to enhance employee experience and build culture. Your reputation as a trusted adviser to the executive is underpinned by your credibility, collaborative style, and exceptional influencing and interpersonal skills. A proven, naturally engaging and authentic leader, you inspire high-performance and community centricity. This is an opportunity to harness your strategic expertise and hands-on approach working with key stakeholders across the service and externally to inspire people to deliver exceptional outcomes, maintain the highest levels of safety, think volunteer-first, and guide people to reach their full potential.
