HCA is a leading national social housing provider. We develop and manage our own properties and work closely with leading government and non-governmental organisations to provide housing for our customers. 

We currently have an opportunity for an Executive General Manager (EGM) in Legal, Governance & Risk. This is a 12-month fixed-term role (parental leave cover) directly reporting to the CEO. Your key responsibility will be to lead and support a highly skilled and dedicated legal, Governance and Risk team during this period. You will be provided with a comprehensive handover so that you can confidently accept the role.

EGM Legal, Governance & Risk works closely with the Executive Leadership Team and the Board to manage the legal, Governance and Risk affairs of the HCA group of companies. As a part of the Executive Leadership team, this is a key role in forming organisational strategy and culture. The EGM Legal, Governance & Risk will lead multiple teams across corporate functions comprising legal, governance, risk, assurance, and compliance.

The ideal candidate has worked in similar leadership roles in the past and is highly experienced in supporting the team on transactional matters relating to property development, major infrastructure projects (including public-private partnerships) and commercial matters, while providing oversight to the corporate governance function. 

The candidate should also have an excellent leadership style for supporting the team. The current team is motivated, hardworking with a strong sense of trust, flexibility and camaraderie,
The role will ideally suit a team-oriented person with strong board and executive engagement skills who is keen to learn, provide leadership, and coach and mentor team members as required. HCA has a genuine flexible/hybrid work policy with five weeks of annual leave to improve employee well-being. The role can also be done on compressed hours. 

The position is a full-time (12 months) role based in Melbourne (close to Melbourne Central Station).

About You:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in law 
• Strong experience working on development, major projects and corporate transactions 
• Proven experience and successful track record at the senior leadership level in a comparable senior role
• Experience, or ability to acquire skills quickly, in managing a wide range of transactions in a complex legal and regulatory environment
• Capacity to support change and innovation and deliver creative and leading practice solutions
• Demonstrated interest in NFP or community sector
• Strong interpersonal communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship development skills 
• Well-developed leadership skills and ability to coach, mentor and support team members
• Strong knowledge and experience in the not-for-profit sector

• Agree and undergo any other employment screening as required by Housing Choices - including but not restricted to Working with Children or Vulnerable Persons and NDIS Worker (this will be as applicable based on the state location and/or function of the role)
• Agree and comply with Child Safety policies and procedures
• Provide a current driver’s license and willingness to travel across Housing Choices’ locations, if and as required.
