Strathfield Council is a Council located in Sydney’s exciting Inner West close to public transport and a short walk from the town centre. The Council area comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents with a projected population of over 55,000 by 2036. Known for its major transport connections and well-kept greenspaces, Strathfield is also considered to be the educational centre of the Inner West.A truly diverse community with a myriad of hidden treasures, the Strathfield local government area makes for a truly special place to live, work and play. To achieve this growth Council is engaging in a number of progressive urban renewal and strategic planning initiatives. This includes the preparation of a master plan for Strathfield Town Centre and working with NSW Government in the delivery of the Homebush Masterplan under the TOD program.The Role
The position – Executive Planner Development Assessment – is a key leadership role within the Planning directorate and indeed the organisation as a whole. Leading a dedicated and professional team of planners you will be responsible for the achievement of excellence in planning decisions and development outcomes across Strathfield that support a positive and vibrant future of the community that to enhances the existing high standard of amenity, environmental attributes, and sense of place.A key element of this position will be the management of a contemporary, high-functioning and high performing planning and assessment team which is highly regarded and respected by the Strathfield community, external agencies and stakeholdersFunctionally key responsibilities will include leading supervising and coordinating major and complex statutory applications, appeal case load and panel matters to ensure the team consistently works to meet its assessment timeframe targets and commitments against Council’s Operational and Strategic Plans. In addition, you will be working to ensure the vision, principles and objectives of the Strathfield Local Strategic Planning Statement, Strathfield LEP, DCPs and policies are observed and implemented.Lastly you will strive to provide inspirational leadership across the Development Assessment function, driving a culture of accountability and continuous performance improvement whilst supporting teams across Council.In return, you will get to collaborate with a highly engaged and hard working team and be rewarded by exposure to a range of planning projects that will assist you in advancing your own professional skills and experience.About You
