Grant Thornton Australia is a member firm of the Grant Thornton global network – one of the world's leading independently-owned and managed accounting, advisory and consulting firms.

In Australia, we’re proud to support the careers of over 1,500 remarkable people. With six offices nationally and partner firms in more than 145 markets, wherever you want to go, we can take you there.

About this role

Our growing Private Business Tax & Advisory team is looking for an experienced Business Services Accountant to join the Sydney office.

Business leaders face many challenges throughout the business lifecycle: from managing daily operations, Tax and compliance, to navigating a competitive landscape and planning an exit strategy. As part of our ‘Reach for Remarkable’ brand promise, Grant Thornton’s people are committed to providing a strikingly different client experience that is agile, authentic, and personal.

Enjoying a meritocratic culture and ‘hands-on’ work style, you’ll be involved in a broad range of activities, including:

  • Preparation of accounts, tax returns, BAS, FBT and payroll tax returns for a broad range of clients, from SMEs to large companies
  • Build and maintain strong relationships as part of an effective client service delivery team
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to wider firm initiatives across the business

Skills and experience

You will have an interest in taxation and in the ‘nuts and bolts’ of accounting, bringing a caring, conscientious, and practical approach to your clients. You enjoy applying your analytical and critical thinking skills to problems in order to find innovative solutions that are tailored to each client’s unique situation.

  • At least 1 year’s professional experience within a chartered accounting environment
  • CA professional accreditation, or currently studying
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities within a deadline-driven environment and be adaptable to work across multiple managers
  • Experience in the use of Xero accounting software will be highly regarded

If you’re interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.

Reach your remarkable

At Grant Thornton we do things differently because we understand that when you strive for better and care about what you do remarkable things are possible. We’re a dynamic and authentic mix of backgrounds, perspectives and ways of thinking. We’re driven by our shared purpose – we care for our people, clients and communities and support them to thrive.

With us, you’ll be exposed to challenging and rewarding opportunities – building your confidence and capabilities at every step. You’ll be supported, motivated and inspired by a team of passionate and caring collaborators and leaders. You’ll be empowered to build a career path that’s tailored to you and encouraged to make a meaningful difference. And we’ll make sure the excellence you deliver and the impact you make is always seen, felt and celebrated.

Remarkable perks that put you first:

  • First professional services firm to trial a 9-day fortnight
  • Flexible working options available
  • Funded qualification and paid study leave
  • Structured learning and development at all career levels
  • Fully funded gym membership | Health Insurance discounts
  • And many more!
