Job Description

The Exploration Supervisor reports to the Lead Exploration Geologist in Lithium Resources and is responsible for supporting the planning and safe operation of field-based exploration activities. The Exploration Supervisor will play a key role in proactively identifying and managing HSE and execution risk associated with field activities and support the development, delivery and continuous improvement of relevant Exploration processes and systems. The role work in close partnership with stakeholders and key contractors to deliver safe and efficient field programs, as well as collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to build and improve our exploration specific systems of work.

This role will specifically be accountable for supporting the development and delivery of Exploration Contractor Management Processes and a fit for purpose Exploration Safety Management System, in close collaboration with the Exploration Manager and business support personnel, particularly Safety and Procurement.

Regular site travel will be required in this role to supervise field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring adherence to Albemarle’s safety culture and Core Values, including being a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive and collaborative safety culture. Ensuring safe field operations and, always, holding the safety of employees, contractors, and consultants as our highest priority.
  • Capable of being appointed as statutory supervisor under Schedule 26 of the WHS (Mines) Regulations (WA) 2022 and discharging associated duties.
  • Development and continuous improvement of Exploration Contractor Management Processes and Exploration Safety Management Systems.
  • Providing support and assistance to the Manager in planning and permitting field activities.
  • Collaborating with internal departments including safety, environmental, heritage, mine planning, and contracts and compliance, to address project requirements.
  • Supervision and management of Reverse Circulation and diamond drilling contract processes and execution, including invoice and KPI review.
  • Assisting with landowner or community liaisons, including traditional owner liaison and supervision of heritage surveys.
  • Supervision of staff and contractors at the Projects and other relevant locations, as required.
  • Managing, maintaining, and procuring field equipment such as geological equipment, safety supplies, communication devices, drilling consumables, camp supplies, and vehicles.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Manager.

Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements

  • +10 years of experience working in field-based or mining environments. Exposure to a wide range of field related tasks and specific experience with field operations for mineral exploration drill programs. Civil Earthworks related experience (e.g., exploration road or drill pad building) would be an asset.
  • Recognized leader with strong organizational, planning, analytical and decision-making skills. Superior interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team as well as effectively engage third parties.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment, both independently and with a diverse multidisciplinary team, building and strengthening relationships within the team and other stakeholders (such as contractors, consultants, service providers, regulators, Traditional Owners, and landholders).
  • Experience in liaising with community stakeholders on all aspects of exploration activities.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as functional knowledge of standard MS Office software applications.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Results orientated with excellent organizational, planning, prioritization, problem solving and execution skills.
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of logistics and operational tasks; trouble shoot and prioritize work to achieve project outcomes by deadlines.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge and maintenance skills for a variety of equipment and vehicles typically used in mineral exploration would be an asset.
  • Ability to travel for work for extended durations.

Education / Qualification Requirements

  • Valid First Aid certificate.
  • Valid Class C Manual driver’s license (HR license would be an advantage).
  • Training qualification and experience preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in high-risk work, remote work, earthmoving and/or with drilling equipment is an advantage.
