Form of workWe are looking for staff with flexible hours who can work weekdays as well as weekends, someone who is friendly and loves to sew, if that sounds like you keep reading!
Tasks & responsibilities
- Serving Customers: You will be required to work at the register entering sales, assisting customers to find them a suitable product and answering questions they may have.
- Advising on Fabrics & Sewing: Customers often come in with little or no fabric knowledge, it is important to be able to guide them on the differences between fabrics and what may work best for whatever project they have.
- Cleaning & Tidying the Shop: Fabrics need to be put away after serving the the shop needs to be left in a tidy state. It is important to clean and tidy for not only the presentation of the store but to keep the stock from being damaged.
- Cutting Fabric: Majority of sales will be cutting fabric to a desired length, experience with sewing/fabrics will help to ensure you know how to cut straight and can spot things like the grainline of the fabric.
- Working Saturdays & Both Locations: We have two stores in Melbourne, all staff are expected to be able to work at both stores. As a retailer Saturday is our most important day and we ask that staff keep this day free whenever possible. Our stores are in Glen Huntly & Fitzroy
Qualifications & experience
- Knowledge of Sewing: You do not need to be a professional sewer, however we do have a lot of customers come in and ask for sewing advice, general knowledge of sewing in any area (garments, quilting etc) is helpful.
- Knowledge of Fabrics: Customers will often need advice on what fabrics will work best for them. Having a knowledge of benefits between Natural vs Synthetic, Wovens vs Knits etc. is helpful.
- Industry or Retail Experience is a bonus! - You don't need to be a retail superstar, however having experience dealing with customers and knowing how to serve can help.
