Job description

We seek a highly organised, collaborative, and energetic Facilities Leading Hand to join the Melbourne Girls Grammar Facilities team. This position reports to the Facilities Manager and Head of Maintenance, working collaboratively with them to lead and oversee the day-to-day Maintenance and Facilities operations of the school including the enhancement, maintenance, safety and security of school buildings and assets. 

The Facilities Leading Hand is the Deputy to the Head of Maintenance and together they are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities and ensuring the smooth functioning of maintenance operations of the school. This role encompasses a wide variety of day-to-day tasks from preventative maintenance, to oval and garden upkeep, to fire drills, to traffic management. The Facilities Leading Hand also has input in strategic decision-making via collecting information for budgets and projects and developing landscape improvement plans in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.

The successful candidate will be a capable tradesperson with experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating employees. You will be well organised and used to prioritising for yourself and your team, with effective planning and time-management skills. You will value the importance of good practice regarding OH&S procedures, safe work practices and risk management in a maintenance environment. You will be someone who takes pride in high-quality work and takes responsibility to ensure attention to detail and accuracy in your work and that of your team. This position is open to all Tradespeople from all trades and skills across multiple trades will be considered favourably.

This position is well suited to an experienced tradesperson with leadership experience looking for a dynamic, engaging and highly varied role with a balance of hands-on work around the school, planning, and staff management.
