Your Opportunity

As the Faculty Director - Construction, Trades and Building Services you will be responsible for the academic leadership of the relevant vocational training areas in the Faculty whilst establishing and maintaining industry partnerships to advance the standing, reputation and growth of the organisation.

This position reports to the Executive Director, Education and Training. 

This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity.

The position's base location is negotiable within the East Coast region however the role will require travel and the performance of work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage strategic faculty product plans to deliver an effective, efficient and commercially sound business model.  Initiate and implement innovative offerings aimed at increasing TAFE Queensland’s share of the vocational education and training (VET) market.
  • Drive academic leadership that focuses on the quality of and excellence in teaching and learning. 
  • Establish and maintain a network of contacts within the higher education, industry and professional associations to monitor trends and directions to ensure programs meet the needs of the community and promote the interests of TAFE Queensland at industry, business and government forums.
  • Drive revenue generation activities to foster business growth.
  • Manage Faculty budgets and performance against negotiated targets and ensure the evaluation and ongoing viability of offerings.
  • Provide academic leadership to the organisation by fostering an environment of quality, which will be supported through innovation and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Faculty Directors and key stakeholders to support the recruitment , performance and retention of a highly professional and productive educational workforce.
  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Showing Initiative, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility. 
  • Model and actively ensure activities within the Faculty comply with all compliance and regulatory requirements including but not limited to work, health and safety legislation and the organisation’s sustainability management system. 

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the drivers of vocational education and training (VET) reform and demonstrated ability to develop and implement industry relevant and commercially sound solutions that enhance competitive positioning.
  2. Demonstrated creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship with the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment whilst ensuring compliance with current VET requirements and other legislation.
  3. Demonstrated effective strategic and operational management skills, including high level stakeholder engagement and management, planning and analysis and an ability to contribute to the wider business to impact significantly on organisational growth.
  4. Proven ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams in a complex and competitive environment across multiple sites and disciplines.
  5. Highly developed problem solving, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills together with a demonstrated collaborative working style and a proactive approach to engaging internal and external stakeholders. 

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
  • Tertiary qualification in Education, Business or Management or equivalent relevant experience.
  • High level industry experience and networks relevant to the Faculty.
