  • Parental Leave cover until 31 December 2024
  • Part-Time working 50 hours per fortnight
  • Hourly base rate of $41.52 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Family Support Worker – Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah (Our Families Our Children) will focus on promoting school readiness among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by providing support and education to families with children aged ante-natal to four years in the City of Swan.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering parenting services directly to parents/carers, empowering them with the skills and confidence to nurture their children's wellbeing and development. This position is based at the Ellenbrook office with flexible working hours.

DUTIES

  • Plan and implement home visiting or safe place support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families facing barriers to accessing parenting support services.
  • Conduct group education sessions, such as Parenting & Play Time, to enhance parents' early years knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with local services to organise community engagement activities, empowering families to participate in programs.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Hold or be working towards Certificate III in Education, Early Childhood, Community Development, Social Work, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Family Support, especially with families facing complex needs.
  • Knowledge of child development from birth to four years old.
  • Ability to work with a strengths-based approach.
  • Track record of building trusting relationships with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities and colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with parents, caregivers, community members, and professionals.
  • Proficiency in facilitating group activities.

The successful candidate will need to hold a current WA driver's licence, Working with Children Check, and satisfactory National Police Clearance obtained within the last six months.

It is essential that you meet the above criteria and are permitted to work and remain in Australia with no limitations to be considered.
