NPY Women's Council was started by the Anangu women in 1980 and continues to be governed by the women from the NPY lands. At its core NPY Women's Council is about family and community - Walytja. Their purpose is to work with women, children and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara region in central Australia. Key duties:
- Provide supports to women and children who are experiencing, or at risk of, violence, including crisis response, advocacy, referrals, long-term case management, and group work.
- Complete risk assessments and safety planning in collaboration with women experiencing violence.
- Complete remote outreach via bush trips at least once a month.
- Work alongside the Community Development team as per the Strengthening Community Capacity to End Violence Framework.
- Model and facilitate effective and respectful communication that contributes to a supportive and reflective learning culture for the DFVS.
Skills & Experience:
- A tertiary or diploma qualification in Social Work, Community Services, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with women and families who are experiencing, or at risk of, domestic and Family Violence, including risk assessment and safety planning.
- An understanding of a trauma informed, holistic and relational approach to domestic violence service delivery, relevant for Aboriginal Australian cultural contexts.
- Ability to work cross-culturally, displaying strong intrapersonal and interpersonal skills and an ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
- Hold a current drivers licence and ability to travel for regular bush trips.
You will also have or be willing to undergo a Working with Children Check and a Police Check.
