Description:
We are seeking a Farm Manager for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, for their Gatton Crop Research Facility. You will join the team on an initial contract until the end of 2024, with a view to extending your tenure until 30th June 2025. In your new role, the pay rate will be $54.34 per hour plus super.
Whilst overseeing the farming operations in the Gatton Centre, you will undertake a variety of duties including:
• Undertaking agricultural agronomic activities including land preparation, irrigation installation harvesting, weeding, chemical application, care and maintenance of horticultural and tree crops.
• Working independently and with other staff, following instructions from supervisor and/or Facility Manager to successfully complete tasks to support research projects.
• Management of the Farm Support Team and casual staff in accord with DAF policies and procedures.
• Managing the maintenance program for heavy plant, vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure assets are research ready and functional
• Undertaking the purchasing of consumables and collaborate with the Facility Manager for higher value asset purchases.
• Performing risk management, contingency actions and procedures to comply with statutory and corporate compliance and to ensure a safe work environment.
• Utilisation of standardised administrative programs, packages, and systems to assist with site operations and reporting (e.g., AgCommander, Chemwatch, HR systems, Corporate Card, etc.)
• Provision of Technical Officer Trial support advice and services to DAF and External Clients to support trials.
• Contribute to the Queensland Smart Cropping Centre strategic plans to achieve short, medium, and long-term milestones.
In order for us to bring you straight to our Client as the ideal candidate for this role, please ensure you review the following key criteria very closely:
1. A Diploma or Associate Diploma in Agriculture or Plant Sciences or equivalent*
2. A current “C” class drivers’ licence is a requirement of this role.
3. Experience in farming and/or horticultural crop research.
4. Ag/Chem spray qualifications
5. Forklift Licence
* For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
