About the role
As the Finance Analyst, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Corporate Services Group.
The primary purpose of this role is forensic activities of overtime analysis ongoing oversight of red flag matters, supporting responsible management with process of changes and compliance, and undertaking ongoing regular sampling and verification of overtime claims. In addition, the role will provide input where possible with the implementation of the new time and attendance system.
This position will lead the development of regular and ongoing reporting of overtime trends, analysis and comparatives in consultation with management and key stakeholders.
An exciting aspect to this role is the variety and exposure offered with two days per week working on labour model analysis and inventory consulting analysis.
This is a great opportunity to utilise your experience from chartered practice and step into a commercial role with a leading rail operator. You will have the chance to make a hands-on impact on the business and the roll out of the new time and attendance system.
This is a two-year Fixed Term, Full time role.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the ability to work autonomously on set pieces of work and have a proactive and inquisitive mindset. It is important that you can build strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally and work collaboratively.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Demonstrated experience in business planning, regulatory issues, and audit.
- Demonstrated capability in financial reporting, budgeting analysis, and developing a suite of analysis from the ground-up.
- Proven ability to diagnose operational problems quickly and identify / escalate potential issues.
- Ability present key findings to gain agreements or put forward business solutions.
- High level Communication Skills and Computer Literacy
- Tertiary qualification in Business/Finance Administration or equivalent
- CPA or CA qualified or working towards.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in analyst and/or audit roles with IT and forensic accounting experience in either Tier 1 or 2 chartered accounting firm.
- Advanced experience in audit and leading a small or medium size audit and extensive experience in forensic accounting activities.
- IT implementations and/or User Acceptance Testing.
- Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2019 or Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2019).
