A privately owned Australian transport company that has depots in all major cities across Australia, they provide a high-quality range of services including interstate and local transport, warehousing and wharf cartage.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for leading a finance team of five including accounts payable and receivable, financial accountant, accountant and accounts officer.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Develop, monitor, and update budgets and forecasts in collaboration with executive teams to ensure financial goals are met.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies between budgeted and actual financial performance and provide insights for corrective actions.
- Analyse costs related to logistics operations, identify cost-saving opportunities, and make recommendations for cost reduction strategies.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
- Assist in tax compliance activities, including GST and payroll tax, and collaborate with external tax advisors.
- Work with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Manage and mentor the financial team, providing guidance, training, support and career development opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with various departments, including operations, procurement, commercial to provide financial insights and support business initiatives.
- Maintain key relationships with banks, external accountants, auditors and other third parties.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements, taxation obligations, accounting policies and standards, and internal financial policies.
Education, skills and experience expected for this position include:
- Tertiary accounting qualification and/or post tertiary accounting qualification (CA/CPA etc)
- Transport & Logistics industry knowledge/experience, preferred but not essential.
- An analytical mind.

- Proficient with Microsoft office suite (Word/Excel/Outlook).
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills including the capacity to engage core functions and stakeholders.
