Our Financial Reporting team at the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is seeking currently recruiting a Financial Accountant to join their diverse collaborative team. In this role, you will engage with the business teams and agencies you are supporting as well as other teams within Corporate Services. This is a great opportunity to build your networks and develop a deeper understanding of the services our agency provide and progress your career.
As a Financial Accountant, you will support the Senior Financial Accountants in preparing financial statements across larger entities. In addition, you will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements of various smaller agencies and entities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Support the Senior Financial Accountant in the preparation of the Statutory Financial Statements
- Support the preparation of annual financial accounting reporting packages including preparation of work papers, reconciliation of accounts and respond to audit queries and NSW Treasury
- Support the Senior Financial Accountant to review relevant policies and procedures to ensure that they meet the needs of a constantly changing accounting environment and comply with relevant statutory and NSW Treasury requirements.
- Prepare month-end reports for submission to NSW Treasury ensuring compliance with presentation formats and reporting deadlines
Our team is required to meet statutory deadlines which can mean quick turnaround from ledger close to financial statements. These roles will suit an organised, self-motivated and results driven finance professional to ensure ongoing monitoring of financial reporting and responsive action to resolve reporting issues as they arise.
About You
To be considered for this great opportunity you will need to have sound knowledge of accounting concepts and principals.
Experience in preparing statutory financial statements ideally within a government organisation or medium to large sized organisations is preferred. Candidates with experience in auditing of financial statements would also be highly regarded.
You will be able to demonstrate your experience planning and producing accurate reports and documentation. As an end-process service it is critical that you can demonstrate your ability to engage with the business and shared service to produce quality reports. You will also demonstrate how you identify and resolve accounting issues, provide improvements to accounting and control processes and increase awareness and understanding of accounting principles in the business.
Essential requirements
- Degree qualification in Commerce, Business or similar field, or currently completing a Degree qualification in Commerce, Business or relevant field, or extensive relevant practical experience
