The Pilbara Community Legal Service's (PCLS) vision is to empower the people of the Pilbara region to manage their lives effectively by providing accessible, equitable, responsible, and culturally appropriate advice, support, and advocacy.

What we do

PCLS is a not-for-profit, community organisation that provides a range of services which include:

  • legal advice
  • financial counselling
  • tenancy advocacy, family violence, housing, redress advocacy and support services
  • migration settlement and transition services.

About the Program

The service includes providing information, budgeting, casework, advocacy, support, and appropriate referrals to clients seeking assistance in relation to their rights and responsibilities in financial counselling and other relevant areas of need.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to and working under the supervision of the Team Leader, Financial Counselling, and as a key member of the Financial Counselling team, you will provide:

  • Client Support and Financial Education: Assist individuals, families, and communities to develop the capacity to find solutions to financial difficulty, enhancing knowledge, skills, and confidence.
  • Research and Information Sharing: Ensure that people experiencing financial difficulties have timely access to information about financial entitlements available to them, working towards developing proactive solutions to reduce creditor pressure including legal action. To ensure that people experiencing financial hardship are assisted to maintain connection to essential utilities through advocacy and facilitated referrals.
  • Goal Setting and Budgeting: Work with clients to set specific financial goals, such as reducing debt, saving for emergencies, or planning for major expenses. Help clients create and manage budgets tailored to their individual financial situations.
  • Case Management and Data Entry: Maintain accurate records of client interactions, financial plans, and progress toward goals. Keep up to date on data entry of client records.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and ethical standards in the financial counseling field. Ensure compliance with PCLS policies and practices.
  • Additional Tasks: Reasonable ad hoc tasks as requested.
