Position SummaryThe Financial Controller will lead our financial operations, focusing on enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensuring that reported results comply with Australian accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. Key responsibilities include financial reporting and analysis, cash flow management, tax compliance, strategic planning in collaboration with the management team, and presenting the financials in monthly board meetings. This role is pivotal in driving the company's financial strategy and contributing to business development decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Oversight and Strategic Management
- Oversee all company accounts, financial transactions, and investments.
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company's goals.
- Provide financial insights and guidance to the management team during strategic planning.
- Attend monthly board meetings to present financial reports and strategies.
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, including executives, board members, investors, and financial institutions.
- Reporting, Budgeting, and Forecasting
- Create detailed business analysis, outlining problems, opportunities and solutions for the business.
- Ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations.
- Prepare timely monthly and annual financial reports.
- Develop budgets and financial forecasts based on data reports and research.
- Prepare BAS, IAS, and Annual Taxation documents.
- Cash Flow and Risk Management
- Implement and oversee the proper functioning of all financial transactions and systems.
- Monitor liquidity and cash flow while optimising working capital.
- Identify and assess financial risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Ensure that the finance team maintains system integrity and controls.
- Operational and Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of financial professionals, ensuring that the finance department functions smoothly and efficiently.
- Oversee accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) to ensure that financial activities are performed accurately and on time.
- Establish internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the robustness of financial processes.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certification: CPA/CA qualification preferred with 5+ years post qualification experience
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience in a financial management role with at least 2 years of managing a team.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in financial software and MS Office/Google docs; familiarity with business intelligence software (e.g. Xero) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards and tax regulations
- Experience in managing reporting requirements of intercompany transactions
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Extensive knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing finance teams in a multicultural environment.
