The Opportunity
Our mission is to establish robust policies and oversee procedures to ensure the secure and accurate management of financial data used in external reporting, guaranteeing its material accuracy and timely delivery.
As a Senior Financial Governance Specialist, you will be driving increased transparency, and quality of financial data reported externally and internally and supporting the review of processes, and artefacts to be aligned to this framework.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Monitoring and designing of internal controls, process improvement and financial policies used to manage financial data and ensure it is correct
- Reviewing processes and artefacts to identify inefficiencies, and control weaknesses and driving remediation activity.
- Ongoing monitoring of changes to processes and conducting assessments to ensure these are all aligned to the set External Reporting Governance Framework and policies.
- Reviewing Regulatory Returns, and Balance Sheet reconciliations and ensuring financial data is of high quality
- Where required, building new reconciliations and processes related to external reporting
- Responsible for the monitoring, development and oversight of External Reporting Governance Framework, policies and procedures underpinning statutory reporting obligations, as well as financial reporting and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Work closely with internal teams, such as Financial Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, and Tax in addition to the Fund's Custodian.
- Assist with the development, monitoring and maintenance of the Financial Reporting Governance Framework, and underlying policies.
- Driving, managing, and supporting change as required in relation to Financial Control processes and ensuring alignment to External Reporting Governance Framework.
- Execution of process improvements to ensure all processes meet certain levels of automation whilst maintaining transparency and auditability.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of Board and subcommittee papers.
- Review updates to Standard Operating Procedures to ensure they are up to date and fit for purpose.
- Review existing Regulatory returns and ensuring UniSuper complies with its regulatory reporting obligations
- Assist in the build and development of new regulatory returns or balance sheet reconciliations as required.
- Oversight and involvement in the onboarding of new regulatory requirements and other financial reporting requirements where required
- Contact for external bodies such as APRA, the Fund's custodian, ABS, Internal and External Auditors and Fund's Actuaries.
- Interpret regulatory, legislative, and statutory reporting changes and existing requirements into operational processes and provide leadership, support and advice to the Financial Reporting and Regulatory Reporting delivery teams. For example, in relation to new requirements associated with the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) and APRA Superannuation Data Transformation Program, Phases 2 and 3.
- Support the Financial Control team on Statutory Reporting requirements where needed.
- Provide support to the other Financial Control team members as required.
About You
- CA or CPA qualified
- Extensive experience in Finance with background in a big 4 professional services firm (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
- Experience in writing Committee and Board papers, and developing or reviewing financial policies and procedures
- Analytical and interpretive skills in relation to regulatory requirements and accounting standards
- An eye for detail, balanced by the ability to see the big picture
- Advanced numerical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders both internally and externally
- Experience with Superannuation, investment accounting or financial services industry is preferable
- Experience in relation to execution of change and change management/governance is preferable
