Job description

The objectives of the Cultural Care Services are to enhance and build on the available informal and formal family and community supports for Aboriginal children living in Kinship Care and Home-Based Care. To assist extended family networks to provide the best care arrangements for children unable to live with their own parents, with the minimum level of professional supervision and intervention from the formal service system. To assist with the establishment, monitoring and support in the following areas: First Supports, Kinship Reunification, Kinship Care and Home-Based Care placements and Targeted Care Packages arranged for the most vulnerable Aboriginal children as a result of child protection involvement, thus ensuring that each child’s ongoing safety, stability and developmental needs are met.

The Caseworker First Supports and Reunification is responsible for providing information, support and advice, including First Supports, coordination of Kinship Carer groups, Kinship Family Service provision, long term support to Kinship and

Out of Home Care arrangements, inclusive of Carer supervision, Kinship and Out of Home Care, Targeted Care Packages and Kinship Reunification support services for statutory placements arranged by Child Protection, inclusive of placement establishment support and case contracting.

Key Selection Criteria:
  • Experience in the case management of complex children, youth and families and knowledge of the Kinship Care, Kinship Reunification, Residential Care, Out of Home Care system, and Child Protection statutory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for client needs, influencing decisions in the client’s best interests.

• Communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a broad range of people, both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal at all levels to achieve broad project objectives and goals.
• Uses knowledge and experience to develop and implement systems to plan and monitor own performance
• Solves problems based on operational knowledge and experience, scanning for useful information, looking for underlying causes and suggesting alternative actions for clients and staff.
• Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.

Qualification/s:

Minimum relevant Certificate IV of Community Services.

Other Screening Requirements:A current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
A current Employee Working with Children Check card.
A current National Police Check.
COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate & Booster information or a valid medical exemption.
