· To support the delivery of relevant curriculum programs within the Food Studies area.
· To work under the direction of the Food Studies Teachers, using established routines, methods and procedures.
· To assist colleagues, both teaching and non-teaching in the tasks being undertaken in the Food Studies area and provide assistance to students as directed.
· The Food Studies Assistant requires a broad knowledge of safe food handling DET and associated health regulations.
· To maintain confidentiality, ie able to be trusted with private and sensitive information and be accountable for quality, accuracy and timelines of tasks undertaken, using initiative and effective and efficient work practices.
· Support College activities requiring food and / or catering, and the Food Studies department resources.
Duties:
· The hygienic and orderly maintenance of the Food Studies facilities and equipment.
· Work flexible hours to meet the needs of time tabled classes and those deemed by the school when deemed necessary. E.g. Special school activities.
· Liaise with Food Studies Teaching staff to produce weekly orders for classes.
· Ensure that supplies ordered are stored correctly in pantry, fridges/freezer.
· Maintain and regularly update a register of students, with special food needs/ allergies.
· Prepare food, equipment and trays, tea towels, oven mitts, dishcloths for the commencement of classes and when required.
· Clear away equipment and materials after use and check that they are maintained in a safe, clean, and ready to use condition.
· Clean stores, benches of food as soon as possible.
· Assist teacher in supervision of students, and when necessary address immediately student conduct issues within the Food Studies environment which impact on safety.
· Ensure work areas, materials and equipment are maintained in a clean and ready to use condition.
· Use and maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with school procedures and manufacturer¿s instructions.
· Follow correct hygiene and safety procedures when handling food.
· Undertake daily cleaning of kitchens, dining room and prep area.
· Launder tea towels, dishcloths, aprons used in the Food Studies department.
· End of Term and Annual duties:
- Clean and clear refrigerator and freezers as far as possible.
- Check all items from cupboards and drawers for cleanliness. Clean cupboards and drawers if necessary.
- Check stoves for cleanliness.
- Food storerooms, clean all shelves and cupboards, sweeping and mopping floors.
- Make adequate provision against dust, insects and rodents.
- Conduct annual stock take and cleaning procedures.
· Assist the Food Studies department with MSC promotional activities.
· Participate in team meetings when required.
· Other duties as directed by the Principal.
