Conservation Studio Australia welcomes applicants seeking a full-time employment in our specialist team of conservation architects and historians in the position of Graduate of Architecture working in applied architectural conservation and disability access adaptation on heritage listed/registered buildings. Applicants with the following minimum experience requirements are encouraged to apply:

  • Bachelor or Master level qualification in Architecture from an Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) accredited architectural qualification provider, or
  • Bachelor or Master level qualification in Architecture from an Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) mutually recognized qualification provided. Mutually recognised regions currently include Canada, Japan, Singapore and United States.
  • Master or Post Graduate level qualification in Urban and Cultural Heritage or equivalent architectural conservation from an Australian or mutually recognised provider.
  • minimum 3 years' architectural experience at graduate level.
  • minimum 1 years' experience working in Australia at graduate level.
  • minimum of 1 years' experience working in applied architectural conservation in Australia.
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic and hands-on sort of person ready to work on a variety of heritage conservation and disability upgrade projects.
Skills
Applicants should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • possess excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Suites and Microsoft Word.
  • ability to write with concise analytical clarity.
  • some knowledge of current Australian Standards and National Construction Code requirements.
  • familiarity with scoping of façade conservation works - specifically nineteenth century and early twentieth century cement rendered masonry building.
  • some knowledge of heritage planning requirements at State and Local Government levels in Victoria.
  • some understanding of the use and preparation of Conservation Management Plans (CMP).
Position Description
Position: Full-time graduate of architecture
Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000 plus superannuation
The position includes initial professional architectural tasks that supports the preparation of analysis, scoping of works, designs, documentation, reports and studies, planning applications and strategic documents produced by this office. The position includes but is not limited to the following tasks:
  • assist in the coordination and preparation of existing conditions drawings and documentation.
  • assist in the scoping, documentation, presentation and delivery of architectural works.
  • attend sites and locations as reasonably directed to undertake measurements, conditions assessment.
  • keep good records of the projects you are working on including time spent on individual tasks in the form of time sheets and diary notes and report this information to the Directors.
  • coordinate and liaise with other employees, suppliers, clients, consultants, contractors and the like as needed to complete the delivery of your duties.
  • attend meetings, in person and virtual and prepare written minutes, agendas and the like as reasonably directed.
  • undertake tasks in a timely manner in order to meet deadlines set for projects and to manage time allocations for tasks as reasonably directed.
  • develop through experience and mentoring the capability to undertake conservation assessments and provide best conservation practice using sound knowledge of The Burra Charter: the Australia ICOMOS Charter for Places of Cultural Significance, 2013.
  • assist Heritage and Research consultants or senior staff in the coordination and preparation of a range of historical research, material research and heritage reports, and other forms of reports and/or written advise.
  • assisting and mentoring junior staff when and if appropriate.
  • managing and maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • work both collaboratively and autonomously in a creative and friendly atmosphere.
  • undertake any other task reasonably request of you by senior staff members.
