About Parks & Recreation
The Parks & Recreation Team are the secret behind the Toowoomba Region’s beautiful parks and gardens. With over 7000 hectares of public gardens, bushland park, sports and recreation facilities and other open space and an extensive urban forest, the Toowoomba region is well known for its liveability and green infrastructure. The Parks and Recreation Services Branch is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining our beautiful green infrastructure, some of which is heritage listed, and keeping up with the strong growth across the region. The team is a diverse mix of approximately 200 people working as labourers, gardeners, arborists, horticulturalists, plant operators, rangers, cleaners, project managers, landscape architects, administrators, regulators and their managers and leaders.
About the positions
We have three Gardener positions available - one based at Goombungee, and two based at our Principal Depot in Charlton.
The Gardener positions are responsible for undertaking skilled gardening duties to ensure delivery of the desired standards of service in the quality maintenance of Council parks and gardens.
These positions work under general supervision.
- The base wage rate for these positions is $1,088.81 gross per 38 hour week, plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.
- These are Permanent Full time positions.
- Work a 9 day fortnight with a Rostered Day Off.

How to be successful in this position - Success Criteria
- Hold the mandatory qualification(s), training and/or experience, as outlined under the 'Success Criteria' in the Position Description.
- Demonstrated basic numeracy, written, and oral communication skills.
- Sound customer service skills with the ability to provide accurate and timely advice in a helpful and supportive manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively, safely, and ethically under general supervision in a team environment.
- Ability to perform physical skilled gardening tasks and to complete work neatly and efficiently in terms of expected standards of service.
- Understanding of and commitment to Council’s Organisational Value and Behaviour of Accountability.
