Your New Career
Surf Coast Shire Council is regarded as a leader within the waste field being one of the first in the state to introduce a 4 bin kerbside system. This is a great opportunity to join our innovative Waste team and support Council’s work to reduce waste to landfill and maximise resource recovery. You will join an experienced team of similar staff based at other council waste disposal facilities located in Torquay and Anglesea.
About the role
This role ensures that our community members are provided with guidance and assistance when arriving at our Lorne and Winchelsea Transfer Stations. You will be inspecting incoming loads, providing advice on correct load separation, direct traffic on site as required, manage onsite litter, process transactions through our waste transaction software and take relevant EFTPOS/voucher payments. Competent operation of the onsite backhoe will be required for managing waste streams, skips and delivery of garden mulch for customers.
This role is part time with approximately 30 hours per week. It will require you to be available to work the following operational hours at each site.
Opening and closing of sites and travel between sites is in addition to the above hours. We operate on all Public Holidays except Christmas Day.
Lorne Transfer Station: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9am – 12pm
Sunday, 2pm – 5pm
Winchelsea Transfer Station: Saturday, 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Sunday, 9:30am – 12:30pm
Key Selection Criteria
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people
- Experience in customer service and computer software operations
- Established knowledge of waste management operations
- Current Victorian driver’s licence
- Backhoe licence
- You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia.
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
- A current Working With Children Check
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience within the waste management industry
- Experience in Local Government
- Experience in waste management/resource recovery operations
- Forklift licence
- First Aid & CPR Certificate.
