About the Role
 
This newly created General Counsel role is part of Bedford’s executive leadership team. Located in Panorama, it reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and works closely with a range of key internal and external stakeholders to provide services and strategic advice on corporate governance, contracts, employment law, risk, compliance, and ESG.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide commercial and strategic, legal advice to the Bedford group of entities
  • Work proactively with the executive team to identify and mitigate risk
  • Ensure Bedford’s activities are conducted in a compliant, ethical, and legal manner
  • Draft, negotiate, and review relevant legal documents including contracts and agreements
  • Manage and maintain robust corporate governance practices
  • Manage external lawyers as required
  • Manage litigation and legal disputes
  • Conduct legal audits and lead process improvements
  • Provide strategic leadership for innovation, change, and coordinated responses
 
 
About You
 
To be successful in this role you will be a qualified lawyer who is experienced in a similar in-house, or senior corporate law position. You will have an in-depth understanding of relevant corporate legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements as well as proven leadership and project management skills. You will be a good fit for the Bedford executive leadership team if you genuinely believe in our purpose and mission, and are inspired by innovation, collaboration, and development. Additionally, you will be a commercial and strategic problem solver who is an excellent communicator and respects and supports your team and colleagues. Previous experience within the disability sector is highly valued.
