Australian Ilmenite Resources (AIR) operates the Sill80 heavy mineral sand operation producing high quality ilmenite sand for the export market at our mine site located 550 km SSE of Darwin NT in the Roper Valley. AIR’s mine will be moving into new areas within the lease in 2024 and expanding the processing circuit to increase production. We are looking for the right person to lead both the daily production and expansion projects which are currently at the concept stage.
As General Manager of the Sill 80 Heavy Minerals project you will lead a compact team at the mine. The project faces the challenges of increasing production, selecting and training the right workforce and improving the site safety culture. We’re looking for a team builder, someone who can lead, train, and develop new projects in a timely manner.
This is a Monday to Friday Darwin based position, reporting to the CEO. The General Manager shall make regular site visits as part of the management strategy.
Your responsibilities will include;
- Develop and oversee improvement projects to maximise the resource.
- Have the experience and background in water and gravity based mineral preparation plants.
- Set realistic and achievable production target in line with Senior management expectations.
- Lead a change in the safety culture at the mine by working effectively with the HST Manager to improve the safety focus on site.
- Oversee to implementation of the MEX maintenance system to ensure that planned maintenance tasks as per the maintenance schedule are effectively carried out.
- Assist senior management in the preparation of the statutory Mine Management Plan
- Lead, recruit and develop the people resources of the site to ensure maximum employee productivity and engagement.

- Formal tertiary qualification in mining and/or process engineering.
- Sound technical and operational understanding mineral sands/open cut mining and the impact of the mining operations on value chain outcomes.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mining technical and operational roles
- Experience in both mobile and fixed plant assets
- Demonstrated successful relationship and stakeholder engagement and project management capabilities.
- Ability to lead technical and/or operational teams to execute challenging projects.
- Demonstrated change management leadership experience.
