Positioned in the heart of the Sydney CBD and set in a historic building,theClarence Street Hotel, Sydney is within walking distance to many of Sydney’s best attractions and conference venues. Public transport is only a brief stroll away, with an array of restaurants, cafes and shops close by.

The Clarence Street Hotel Sydney, formerly the Breakfree on Clarence Street, is currently undergoing a full refurbishment and will reopen as a boutique hotel under an established Accor Brand within the hotel management network. The hotel is still in design phase, and the name and brand is yet to be finalised.

 
Job Description

Clarence Street Hotel, Sydney presents an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned General Manager with a background in food & beverage to spearhead the property's journey through an extensive renovation and relaunch under a renowned Accor brand. We seek a leader who embodies true service professionalism, embracing Accor's values while infusing their unique personality into this new hotel.

With 50 rooms, the hotel will debut alongside a restaurant and bar. The project unfolds in two stages: the first will unveil the accommodation rooms in July/August 2024, while the second will showcase the completed lobby, restaurant, and lower ground floor bar in early Q1 2025.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations for NSW/ACT, this role offers an exciting opportunity for impactful leadership. As General Manager you will be responsible for:

Pre-Opening

  • Work closely with the owner of the Hotel to ensure the asset is reopened in time, as well as in line with the contractual agreements and design concepts.
  • Lead the pre-opening project team, as the hotel has been inactive for a few years and requires a comprehensive re-opening effort.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and construction team for pre-opening, ensuring project timelines and critical paths are met.
  • Set up Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop and implement budgets and operating plans with the Executive Committee
  • Formulate department-level strategic objectives and operation processes through a definite understanding of the overall hotel vision, concept and expected workflow.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and development of the hotel team.

Operation

  • Providing operational and strategic direction to the hotel management team.
  • Ensuring long term profitability of the operational departments and the hotel, maximising revenue and yield opportunities.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including guests, owners, and suppliers.
  • Champion employee engagement, promoting a sustainable collaborative and inclusive environment for all our Heartists.
 
Qualifications

A qualification in hotel management, hospitality management, commerce or business administration would be highly regarded.

About You

  • Previous experience as a General Manager is required, and managing a Hotel refurbishment is preferred.
  • A proven leader with a strategic vision and demonstrated success in driving the commercial performance of the business and delivering on KPIs
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a team of experienced professionals
  • Ability to deliver charming character and personality into the fabric the Hotel and offer personalised creative and innovative service experiences
  • Clear communication, creating impactful relationships with your team and guests
  • Fosters a positive owner relationship
