About the Role
The General Manager – Merchandise will be responsible for driving the growth and development of a key division, overseeing buying and marketing functions, providing leadership, and managing day-to-day operations.
Duties
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role will have the ultimate goal of optimising strategic priorities in line with business strategy whilst managing the business’ financial merchandise plan to maximise profit opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic and Business Planning and Reporting: Develop and implement strategic vision, provide leadership, and report on performance the division, ensuring alignment with annual business plans and objectives.
- Business Growth and Development: Oversee expansion of division, drive product sourcing and marketing initiatives to boost sales and footfall and ensure adherence to company and store standards.
- Financial Management: Develop and execute annual budgets, drive sales, and address adverse trends, while authorizing operational expenses and travel within approved limits
- Continuous Improvement - Implement process improvements and technology solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in planning activities.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment to ensure the team achieves its goals and objectives.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will possess:
- Strong financial and commercial business acumen, including ability to identify opportunities through financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing retail merchandise strategy, inclusive of range, price and promotion.
- Proven track record of effective leadership of merchandise planning function in a retail environment
- Strong understanding of merchandise planning principles and their commercial impact
- Ability to implement and manage a strategic retail planning framework
- Strong understanding of the principles of effective space management, along with demonstrated experience in delivering acceptable stock ROI.
- Highly developed analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage and develop a team
- Ability to manage key relationships effectively to deliver the business strategy
